The best care lives locally.

An abdominal aortic aneurysm can be life-threatening, and requires immediate intervention by a specially trained vascular surgeon.

With local offices and clinics across Connecticut, we’re here for you.

Our award-winning Heart & Vascular Institute team offers everything including advanced endovascular (minimally invasive), open, and hybrid aortic repairs of simple or complex aortic aneurysms and dissections.

If you need surgery, we can guide you through all your options.

You deserve personalized treatment.

We want you to get back to your life as quickly as possible.

That’s why patients rely on us most for advanced minimally invasive procedures. These may include:

  • Fenestrated endovascular aortic repair (FEVAR): Surgeons repair the aorta through small incisions in your groin or arms.
  • Incision-less endovascular aortic repair of complex aortic aneurysms: This approach uses small punctures in the skin, rather than incisions, to repair your aneurysm.

You might also need help after an aortic dissection. We can provide:

  • Guidance for any post-op complications.
  • Comprehensive lifelong follow-up care.

More about Aortic Aneurysm

The aorta is a large blood vessel, almost the size of a garden hose, which distributes blood from the heart to the entire body. The wall of the aorta is subject to constant stress and, when the wall weakens, it can lead to various life-threatening conditions.

An aneurysm is a bulging or ballooning of the wall of the aorta. A simple aneurysm is when the bulging affects the portion of the aorta below the level of the kidneys. Complex aortic aneurysm, such as thoracic or thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, involves the more extensive portion of the aorta in the upper abdomen and chest.

Aortic dissection occurs when the layers of aortic wall split open, leading to various acute symptoms such as chest pain, belly pain and stroke. Aortic dissection is a medical emergency requiring acute care in the hospital, and then a lifelong follow-up to address any complications that may arise from the dissection.
